UAB is accepting platelet donations as part of the UAB TouchPoints II Program. Platelet donations count as 20,000 TouchPoints each time a person successfully donates. Platelet donations are performed at the ARC Ridge Park Center, located on 1130 22nd Street, S #1000, Birmingham Alabama. Employees need to share they are donating for UAB to recieve credit.
What are TouchPoints?
UAB Hospital is excited to introduce TouchPoints II, the new UAB Medicine employee donor program. Here's how it works:
- Each donor will earn 10,000 UAB TouchPoints for every successful red blood cell donation.
- Each donor will earn 20,000 TouchPoints for very successful platelet donation.
- ALYX donations count as 20,000 TouchPoints.
- Once the donor reaches 40,000 TouchPoints, they can select either a $100 Marriott or a $100 Discover card distributed only to the donor achieving the 40,000 TouchPoints.
- The Discover card can be used by the employee anywhere Discover cards are accepted.
- The Marriott card can be used towards lodging, meals, on-site amenities offered by the hotel - including spa, golf & tennis.
- The UAB TouchPoints II program begins May 2010 and ends December 2013.
New UAB Donor Program
The Blood Donor Room was renovated November 2009 and enhanced to 1,993 square feet adding a formal canteen area, an extra health station and increasing to seven state of the art E-chairs. Donors can watch TV or DVDs, or surf the Internet while donating. There is also a 42" LCD TV screen in the guest waiting area.
Able to process twelve donors per hour, the new donor room is the next step in the goal to help make UAB self-sufficient in blood collection (see back panel).
Donors can make an appointment to donate at www.givelife.org, using sponsor code 'UAB' or by calling 205-996-9851 for more information. Remember: bring a photo ID when donating blood!
